Mein praktisches Glossar
Seit dem Anfang meiner Übersetzertätigkeit sammele ich Begriffe und Abkürzungen in einem eigenen Glossar.
Dies hat offensichtliche Vorteile, etwa dahingehend, dass ich während der Arbeit das Glossar direkt konsultieren kann, anstatt verschiedene Fachwörterbücher wälzen zu müssen.
Abgesehen davon, dass es Zeit spart, enthält mein Glossar Begriffe und Abkürzungen aus ganz vielen Fachgebieten. Mittlerweile reden wir hier von ca. 29.000 Einträgen (Stand: March 2024) aus allerlei Fachgebieten! Nur als Beispiele seien hier Bonität, Boole'sche Operatoren und bootfähiges Laufwerk genannt; oder Riegelfeder, rieselfähiges Gut, Rieselkühler; oder wiederum als Abkürzungen VAL (vibration-assisted liposuction), GefStoffV (Gefahrenstoffverordnung), FBH (flat-bottomed hole) und CMGR (Coopération Musicale de la Grande Région) ...
Und das Glossar wächst immer noch täglich.
My practical glossary
Since the beginning of my work as a translator all those years ago, I have been collecting words, terms and abbreviations in a glossary of my own.
That has obvious advantages, for example that of being able to consult the glossary directly parallel to the work I am doing, instead of having to wade into various specialist dictionaries.
Apart from saving time, my glossary contains terms and abbreviations from a great variety of fields. Meanwhile we're talking about approx. 29,000 entries (as of March 2024) from a great variety of fields: just a few examples would be Bonität (creditworthiness), Boole'sche Operatoren (boolean operators) and bootfähiges Laufwerk (bootable drive); or Riegelfeder (interlock spring), rieselfähiges Gut (loose / pourable substance) and Rieselkühler (surface irrigation cooler); or abbreviations such as VAL (vibration-assisted liposuction), GefStoffV (Ordinance on Hazardous Substances), FBH (flat-bottomed hole) and CMGR (Coopération Musicale de la Grande Région).
And the glossary keeps on growing, day by day.
